The Garage Sale That Wasn’t

I know that many minimalists suggest not trying to make money at a garage sale – it slows down your decluttering journey.  I’m sure that’s not true for everybody – I’ve sure attended some great garage sales that I’m sure made money!

Things often won’t sell for what you think they are worth. Studies have shown that people value things they have already more than things they don’t have.

But, sometimes I need to hit my head against the wall to really get it. So one end of our living room was getting filled with stuff to sell – some big, some little. The garage sale was scheduled.

It doesn’t look like much…

Then it rained. And rained the next weekend. And it threatened to rain the weekend after that! We looked at our stuff and finally just said – it is going out the door this weekend!

And we (mostly my wife, bless her truck-owning, get out of the house mindset) got most of it out of there. We even added some things to go to thrift at the last minute.

It was a big relief. I did want to reserve a few large items for a local sale on neighborhood lists. So, I’m a little hard-headed. But there is always next time to learn the lesson!

Success! A big job and still a sense of humor.
