I decluttered around the edges for years, without really changing much in my environment. Just getting rid of broken items, or clothes that no longer fit.
I didn’t have a particular goal beyond getting rid of the obvious extra stuff, and if that is where you are, welcome! I hope that you’ll find some interesting tidbits on More Than Crumbs – especially the decluttering posts.
So: how might you get started? Begin with the easy stuff. Clothes that don’t fit or were worn out were the easy ones for me. Clothes might not be easy for you.
Is there something else, such as expired food or old spices that you could get rid of? The pens that won’t write or old catalogs? Items that you haven’t used in years and don’t think you will again?
“Get rid of” could mean donating, selling if that is worthwhile to you, or trashing if it’s outside its useful life.
Don’t stress or spend a lot of time on difficult items, trying to decide whether to keep them or not. Just pick a few easy things to get rid of.
One caution: computers, phones, PDA’s, and tablets can have personal information on them you’ll want to make sure is securely erased to avoid identity theft.
Is there something easy for you to get rid of? Or something you were surprised was so hard?
