A completely empty living room, when leaving the house for the last time

It Really Is Empty

This picture is from April 8, 2022. A month and a day ago now. We walked out of the house we sold for the last time. All of our stuff is in the AirBnB condo or the storage area.

We looked out the back window and pondered the yard. All three of our dogs lived and died in this house, enjoying the grass and the trees. 13 years might be the longest I’ve lived in any dwelling.

13 years in a neighborhood that was fairly diverse, a short commute, with the wonderful tall trees which we loved so much. 13 years with a library in the dining room. The second and third bedrooms changed from one office for each of us; to a shared office and craft room; to a dedicated office for online meetings for my wife’s work bedroom during the pandemic and a catch-all room.

We left the keys on the counter, shut the door behind us, and let the new owner know we were out.

I wasn’t really sad. Instead, I felt grateful, relieved, and satisfied.

Things are moving quickly now. More soon!
