If selling the house was Mach 1, we’re there again for a second sonic boom.
After several delays, our visa applications have been submitted to the Portuguese Embassy. We have the contract to lease an apartment in Porto, the financial paperwork, our 3 money orders, and the proper return labels FedExed off to the Portuguese Visa approval agency.
While it would have been nicer to have this done earlier in the week, before the day when Paula was leaving for her week-long, intense, profound spiritual event, it was the next best thing. I was glad we could do it together instead of me submitting her completed packet.
The next step is the arrival of the approval of our application – because it isn’t automatic. Then we send off our actual passports to get the visa stamp put in. When they are returned to us we are free to fly to Portugal and start living in the apartment we are already paying for.
It is a lot. And yet with all of that, it is easier than staying here. with people of color and LGBTQI – especially trans and gender non-conforming people are at increased risk of violence. trans kids’ health and emotional well-being under attack, hyper-religiosity, mass shootings, covid denial, and lies lies lies being told.
And we don’t need another reason, but the mass shootings are horrific too.
